Cusco

So the last day of school was June 11th and natually, the morning of June 12th I boarded the first of many planes to Peru at 9:00 AM. Tampa to Houston, Houston to Panama and then Panama to Lima....by midnight I got to Lima and met up with Melissa, who had been waiting at the Lima airport for about 3 hours. We played Uno and slept in the airport until our 6AM flight to Cusco.
When we got to Cusco, we met our driver who took us to the hotel where it was finally nap time!
Around noon we decided to go explore Cusco.
The city flag, is a Rainbow Flag (which made Melissa feel like she was back in San Fran again!)
The taxi driver told us to beware of parades, we asked if it was a special day and why they would be having a parade today? He said, "Everyday there is a parade"...he wasn't kidding :) After the parade, we went to the Sun Temple and saw some amazing views of the city.
Cusco at night was pretty cool, too. It is winter there, so as the sun went down it got very chilly! The main square seemed to be the place to be. We went to a very good resturante and tried some of the local meals (including Alpaca...pictures coming soon, Melissa took the food pics) Alpaca tastes like steak.. at least I think, I haven't actually had steak in a long time so...but it was really good. Lots of potatoes and corn with every meal as well. Of everything we ate on this trip, the one thing that made me ill was the McDonalds chicken nuggets at the airport on the way home...go figure!
Overall, Cusco was a pretty cool place. We were warned before going to always take a taxi at night and for the pure fact of how small the sidewalks are and how crazy all of the cars are at crosswalks (apparently peds do not have the right of way) taking a cab for $1 was A-OK with us.
